WELCOME MESSAGES
Ladies and gentlemen, dear colleagues, dear members of the International Society of University Colon and Rectal Surgeons,
A great river of life flows between 1962, when International Society of University Colon and Rectal Surgeons (ISUCRS) was established in Mexico city, and today. The most important feature of our society – it was and remains the only professional society in the world, uniting colorectal surgeons from all the corners of our planet. The primary idea to include academic surgeons was soon modified and now any colorectal surgeon is eligible to be one of us. After our biennial meeting in Mumbai in 2016 we took a new turn in this changing world towards a vibrant and modern society, revising our strategy, goals and bylaws. Pandemic brought us a lot of harm as it did globally, and for the first time in our history our most important event – biennial world congress – in 2020 in Yokohama, Japan was virtual for all international participants. A new way of communication and education – webinars – was soon implemented. And despite the lack of physical touch and interaction those numberless webinars on different colorectal topics were very enthusiastically attended.
Most of us still remember a very successful ISUCRS meeting in Istanbul, Türkiye, in 2006. After 18 years, we are back in Istanbul. We are back for more than one reason, and back for good. With the leadership of congress convenor Prof. Dursun Bugra and with an outstanding support of the extremely well developed Turkish Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, to my great belief this event is condemned to success.
I do hope we will all meet as we used to meet for many years, enjoying not only the elaborate scientific program, not only the beauty of the historic city of Istanbul, but the joy and pleasure of being together again.

Dear Friends and Colleagues,
On behalf of the International Society of University Colon and Rectal Surgeons (ISUCRS) organizing committee, I am delighted to welcome all the experts and academics from around the world to Istanbul, Türkiye for the 31st Biennial Congress that will take place from October 27-29, 2022, at Wyndham Grand Hotel Levent Convention Center. After the success of ISUCRS 2006 meeting which was held also in Istanbul, I would like to express my sincere thanks to the Board Members for selecting once more my town to host this landmark event.
Encouraging progress is going in the field of colorectal diseases, both with diagnosis as well as cure. It will be a great pleasure to join with the doctors, nurses, allied health practitioners, scientists, and scholars from around the globe. The first time in the history of ISUCRS meetings, international (WCET, ECET) and local nursing societies will join us with their own schedule.
We prepared an attractive scientific program to promote relevant discussions on innovative treatment, the limits of standard therapies and the impact of new research outcomes. We organized educational pre-congress courses with live surgeries, meet the professor breakfasts for young surgeons. You are invited to be stimulated and enriched by the latest researches and clinical practices, with the presentations of experts by a variety of disciplines.
As the convenor of the congress, I want to welcome you to the wonderful, dynamic and international city of Istanbul where two continents meet.
I hope that you will find the congress and your stay in Istanbul both valuable and enjoyable.
